About

March 2014

At the time of writing, I’m a 15 year old high school student in Durban, South Africa.

I’ve been lucky enough to visit other countries through competitions and other opportunities and have come to the realisation that South Africa is unique in many ways, some good and some not so good.

What I love about Durban and South Africa

  • The wildlife – We have monkeys in the garden and lions and elephants just a short drive away.
  • The ocean – The Indian Ocean which is warm all year round.
  • The people – Durban people are very friendly, we’re famous for it.
  • The wide open spaces – endless sky and lots of wilderness areas
  • The climate – 320 sunny days per year.
  • The varied cultures  – we have 11 official languages!

What I’d like to change about Durban and South Africa

  • Unequal access to education – some schools don’t have enough teachers, few books and no plumbing or electricity.
  • Poverty – Too many people live in unacceptable conditions, without access to the things most people take for granted like piped water, sanitation, electricity, roads.
  • Corruption – Too much public money is spent on enriching the few instead of benefiting the many.
